Zero-Click Search

A zero-click search is a query resolved entirely on the search results page, with no click through to any website. The answer appears in a featured snippet, AI Overview, knowledge panel, or other on-page element, so the user gets what they need without visiting a source. It reflects a broad shift toward search engines answering directly.

Why It Matters

Zero-click results reduce the traffic value of high rankings, forcing brands to compete for on-page visibility and brand impressions rather than clicks alone. Understanding which queries go zero-click helps you focus effort where clicks are still winnable.

Common Mistake

Measuring success purely by click-through rate and concluding a page is failing. For many informational queries the win is being the cited source or snippet, which builds awareness even without a click.
